Калита Петро Якович

Vice President of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, President of the Ukrainian Association for Quality

Kalyta Petro Yakovych was born in Adamovka, Orenburg Oblast, Russia in 1942. He graduated from Kyiv Mechanics College and Ukrainian Academy of Agriculture. In 1968 he attended Higher All-Soviet Union Course on Standardization and Quality. In 1981 Kalyta took a postgraduate course at the All-Soviet Union Research Institute of Standardization (Moscow, Russia). In 1985 he defended a thesis on quality control issues and got a degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences with a specialization in automated control systems.

In 1994, Kalyta was elected as member of the Russian Academy of Quality Problems. In 2002, he became an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He became a member and the president of the International Quality Professionals Guild in 2000.

His career started at Kyiv-based Mayak Plant in 1960. He also worked for the State Committee of Standards, Institute of Utility Services under the Ministry of Utility Services. He held the positions of team leader, senior research fellow, head of laboratory and leading research fellow at the Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. From 1991 until today he is the director of CJSC PRYROST Inter-Branch Quality Center. From 1989 until today he also holds the position of the president of the Ukrainian Association of Quality on a voluntarily basis.

Kalyta is also a member of the General Assembly of the European Organization for Quality, honorary president of the International Quality Professionals Guild, president of the clubs of quality leaders of Ukraine and Central and Eastern Europe, co-chairman of the Central Tender Commission of the Ukrainian National Competition of Quality, chairman of the International Tender Commission of the Quality Tournament among Central and Eastern European Countries, a member of the International Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility, a member of the Public Expert Council on Legislation under the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Industrial and Regulatory Policy. From 1996 until today Kalyta chairs the quality, certification and competitiveness commission of the ULIE. In 1998 he was elected as ULIE board member.

Kalyta was awarded with the Order for Merits of the 3rd degree, the lapel pin For Merits in Standardization (State Committee for Standards and Product Quality Management of the USSR), honorary title The Person of the Year on the Planet (World Council for Quality), the lapel pin For Merits in Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Accreditation (State Committee for Technical Regulation and Consumer Policy of Ukraine (Derzhspozhyvstandart), Ilyin Medal (Russian Organization for Quality), certificates of honor from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, European Organization for Quality.

Kalyta is married. He has a son and two grandchildren. In his free time he goes in for tourism, arts and writes original songs.
