Mayko Vitaliy Ivanovych was born in 1936. He graduated from Chernivtsi State University with a degree in physics of semiconductors in 1959.
His career started in Kyiv at p/s 24 (renamed Kvant Research and Development Institute). Later on he headed a research and development department, then he took a position of chief designer in the sphere of active radiolocation. He also was a member of the council of leading designers in the sphere and deputy chief engineer at the Kvant Research and Development Institute. In 1968, he took a position of deputy director for production and head of pilot production and initiated its technical upgrade. The pilot production was recognized as the best one in the sphere.
Due to an increase in number of the institute's developments and the need for speeding up the implementation of scientific achievements, it was decided to reorganize the Kvant Research and Development Institute into a research and production association. Mayko was appointed as deputy director general of the production association and director of the pilot plant. Under his leadership plants and production branches were constructed in Ukraine, Russia and other countries. Around 100,000 jobs were created for the implementation of the institute's developments.
Considering the necessity to urgently increase the production of especially important and complicated radar facilities for the navy, in 1981 Mayko was appointed as director of the Burevisnyk production facility. Over a short term the facility increased the production of complicated equipment fivefold.
After the declaration of independence by Ukraine Vitaliy Ivanovych organized the development of new equipment necessary to the state, in particular medical equipment (anesthesia-respiratory apparatus at first) and radar stations. Today all Ukrainian hospitals are provided with the abovementioned anesthesia-respiratory apparatuses, and the country's borders are guarded with the help of radars of domestic production. Today Mayko leads the production of innovative medical equipment – Kardiomagscan apparatus for early diagnostics of heart diseases – and its introduction in medical practice.
Mayko is an active participant in the country's social life. He was a deputy of Pozniaky Village Council in Kyiv in 1982, a deputy of Darnytsia District Council in Kyiv in 1986, a deputy of Kyiv City Council in 1991-1995. In 2002 he was elected and in 2005 he was reelected as people's deputy of Ukraine. He also chaired the subcommittee of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship.
He is one of the main organizers of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. He has been its vice president since the League was founded. He is also the president of Kyiv Municipal Association of Industry, Construction, Transport and Communication – the Kyiv Association – and the president of Kyiv Municipal Association of Employers. Mayko is a member of the political council of the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Ukraine. He also was a co-chairman of the National Council on Social Partnership Council under the President of Ukraine.
During his career Mayko was awarded with the order "Token of Respect," the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th degree and numerous medals. Mayko is also an honored mechanical engineer of Ukraine. He is the author of 41 inventions in the sphere of radiolocation and medical equipment. He also won the State Prize in the Sphere of Science and Technology.
