Прохоров Сергій Мефодійович

First Vice President of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs

Prokhorov Serhiy Mefodiyovych was born in 1954 in Kryvy Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region. He graduated from Kryvy Rih Ore Mining Institute with a degree in mining mechanical engineering and pursued postgraduate studies at the same institute. In 1980 he defended his thesis and received a degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences. Later he devoted a lot of time to research activities, he is the author of 11 inventions and more than 40 research papers.

Prokhorov worked for Dzerzhynsk Mining Equipment Repair Plant as a workman, headed a department and area and held the position of chief engineer. From 1988 until 1992 he headed the plant.

In 1992, he became deputy director general in charge of foreign economic activity of the state-run research and manufacturing company Ekor-Kryvbas.

In 1993-1999, he worked as director general of CJSC Pronko and in 1999 he got the position of board chairman at CJSC Proekt. In 2001 he became vice president of the ULIE and in 2003 he was appointed as first vice president of the ULIE. Prokhorov co-chairs the ULIE-State Tax Service of Ukraine conciliatory group. He is also a deputy head of the Association of Employers Organizations of Ukraine.

In 2003-2005, Prokhorov was a member of board of the Ukrainian Obligatory State Social Insurance Fund for Unemployment Cases. From 2005 until 2009 he worked as deputy board chairman of this fund. In 2005-2007 he chaired the supervisory board of Ukreximbank.

Together with employers of Ternopil region he initiated the construction of the Podoliany Trade and Leisure Center, where 3,000 jobs were created. Today he supervises the construction project of the Western Ukrainian business center in Ternopil.

Prokhorov organized the streamlining of the ULIE management system with the standard ISO 9001:2000 and its annual confirmation. Now the League's services comply with international standards. The ULIE became the first non-governmental organization in Ukraine that works according to ISO standards.

Serhiy Prokhorov initiated numerous social and economic projects of the ULIE. He led the elaboration of the program entitled "Individual Houses – Energy Efficiency and Affordability." The project is aimed at recovery of the construction sphere and related productions, and its zest is a modern approach to energy saving using high technologies, which allows building housing literally in the middle of nowhere. Recently this approach was implemented in scientific researches and recommendations of the ULIE's partner – State Enterprise UkrNDIprotsyvilsilbud. The ULIE also suggests designers and constructors to use this report and it has issued several publications on the topic.

Serhiy Prokhorov is a member of Ukrainian-Lithuanian and Ukrainian-Swiss intergovernmental commissions for trade and economy and research and development cooperation. His many-year contacts with the international business community allow the ULIE to cooperate with the Swiss governmental organization SIPPO, which supports imports to developing countries and helps private businesses to enter EU markets.

He enjoys cinema art and is keen on scientific discoveries about the origin of the universe and civilization.
