Шевчук Олег Борисович

People's deputy of Ukraine in the parliament of the 3rd, 6th and 7th convocations. Deputy Board Chairman of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine.

He was born in Kyiv on January 2, 1968. He graduated with honors from Kyiv School of Communication in 1987. In 1994, he got a degree in radio physics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

In 1988-1989 he served in the Armed Forces in signal communications troops.

He started his career in politics in 1990 as deputy of Kyiv City Council. Shevchuk became an active participant of the Ukrainian green movement. In 2006, he was one of the leaders of the Party of Greens of Ukraine.

From 1990 until 1996 he ran businesses in various spheres of economy.

In 1990-1996, he co-founded the Obriy group of companies and chaired it board.

He worked as Ukrtelecom Director General in 1996-1998.

In 1996, he took active part in the development of employers' movement. From 1997 until 1998 he worked as secretary general at the Ukrainian Association of Ferroalloy Producers. In 1997-2004, he took the position of ULIE vice president. In 1998, he founded a public association of the telecommunications market participants Telecom Club.

He founded and headed one of the first in Ukraine industrial organizations of employers – All-Ukrainian Association of Employers in the Sphere of Telecommunications and Information Technology in 2001.

In 2012, he was appointed as the president of the Confederation of Employers of Ukraine. He was appointed as deputy board chairman of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine in 2013. As a representative of the employers' movement he has experience in management of representative supervisory agencies of the social protection funds.

Shevchuk was a people's deputy of Ukraine in the parliament of the 3rd, 6th and 7th convocations. From March 1998 until February 2000 he was a people's deputy of Ukraine of the 3rd convocation, first deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Construction, Transport and Communications.

He heads the State Committee for Communications and Informatization of Ukraine from 1999.

In 2001 he returned to business in sphere of information and communication technologies. At the same time he founded the Institute of Information Society of Ukraine, a public research organization which promotes the development of information society, electronic government and digital democracy.

In October 2007 through 2012 he was a people's deputy of Ukraine of the 6th convocation and first deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Labor. He drafted more than 40 bills.

In March 2014, he was elected as people's deputy of Ukraine of the 7th convocation.

Shevchuk also conducts research activities. He defended his thesis and got a degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences in 2000. In 2004-2006, he took a doctoral training course at the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He continues to work on his doctorate thesis.

Shevchuk is the author and co-author of many books and publications. In particular, he wrote the following books: "E-Ukraine. Information Society in Ukraine: to Be or Not to Be?" (2001), "Electronic Government" (2001), "Green Ukraine" (2002), "The Age of Retribution: Informatization, Globalization, Terrorism and the Near Future of the Mankind."

He was awarded with state awards and prizes. He also won the State Prize of Ukraine in the sphere of science and technology.
