Ukrainian-German joint venture Electrontrans, part of the Electron corporation, which is a member of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, has won a large tender to supply seven Electron trams to Kyiv. Municipally owned Kyivpastrans is the buyer of the new trams for the Ukrainian capital.
After the signing of a contract, Electron Corporation will manufacture five-articulated T5B64 Electron trams with a length of over 30 meters for a 1,524mm-wide track. These are one-carriage low-floor trams designed for 287 passengers. The trams are equipped with ventilation, heating and air-conditioning systems, and are adapted to carry passengers with disabilities and other people with limited mobility. What is more, the Electron trams can boast of being made of corrosion-resistant and non-combustible materials.
"We are certainly pleased that Kyivpastrans' tender commission accepted our bid. Now we are preparing for signing the contract, and when all proceedings under the law are met, we will start the implementation of this important order for us. The Electron tram is a modern Ukrainian-made carriage, which has proven its efficiency in Lviv and whose comfort is used by Lviv residents and guests from all over Ukraine and abroad, and we believe that the capital will also recognize this," President of Electron Corporation Yuriy Bubes said.
Electrontrans ready to export trams. Trams could be shipped to the European Union without customs duties until the end of 2015, as Ukraine enjoys preferential trade with the EU.
"Our Electron trams meet all European requirements, but it cannot be supplied to the EU as the process of adapting our legislation to bring it in line with European laws is still on, and there is great work ahead to change our national standards. Due to the assistance of Lviv Regional State Administration and its head Oleh Syniutka in particular, we've managed to participate in discussions with related ministries. As a result, we have pledged the support of the Infrastructure Ministry and its Minister Andriy Pivovarsky – we're jointly working on harmonization of national standards with European ones," Bubes said. Work is also underway between industrialists and the Economic Development and Trade Ministry, whose head Aivaras Abromavičius visited the enterprise in person. Intensive work is under way to draw up a state program for the development of electric transport in Ukraine, which is economically, environmentally friendly, safe, and one of the most promising types of transportation. It should be added that this strategy has been chosen by most developed nations in Europe and the rest of the world, and Ukraine should follow this positive example.
