Unfortunately, recent events in Zakarpattia region show that the country is wasting time necessary for the creation of conditions for the establishment of the supremacy of law and the principles of inviolability of public order based on the laws and the Constitution of Ukraine. People are losing trust in the government and certainly don't believe that the latter is able to control the situation in the regions, Head of the Anti-Crisis Council of Non-Governmental Organizations of Ukraine and President of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (ULIE) Anatoliy Kinakh said.
"The government should draw serious conclusions from the events in Zakarpattia region. Obviously, the government itself has to demonstrate obedience to laws, perfect observation of the country's laws and Constitution, inviolability of the legal equality principles, the supremacy of law, and protection of human rights. If the government does not show this, society will seek alternative ways to solve problems, namely corruption and smuggling, and impunity of local princelings. Then the authorities lose the people's trust and monopoly on violence in line with the current legislation," Kinakh said.
He stressed that the implementation of reforms, a hybrid peace, the fight against corruption, protection of national interests and territorial integrity of the country is deepening. At the same time, the level of society's demands has changed dramatically after its tragic experience of the events on the Independence Square and the war in the eastern regions. Today, people demand a new quality of government, a new level of social understanding and dialogue, and the complete elimination of corruption and oligarchy in the country.
"The country is facing serious challenges – war is taking place here, there is a direct threat of turning it into a field for the implementation of global scenarios which have nothing in common with our national interests. The imitation of their protection, as well as any attempts to imitate serious work aimed at overcoming the consequences of the socio-economic, political, and mental crisis, will trigger a tough reaction of society, which has been confirmed by the events in Zakarpattia region. Risks are growing worse and threaten the sovereignty and prospects of Ukraine's integration in the EU and the international community, reforms, and transformation into a competitive state," Kinakh said.
Today, we need to take organized, urgent and tough actions in line with the law in order to stabilize public order, punish those guilty regardless of their positions, names, political convictions, and past services. Representatives of the Anti-Crisis Council of Non-Governmental Organizations think that the country would not have faced such tragic events if the government and society, authorities and businesses had conducted an effective dialogue. Conclusions on the events in Zakarpattia region should be drawn up timely and they should satisfy not only separate powerful financial groups, but also society in general which wants peace, stability, and reliable protection of human rights. The government has to draw serious conclusions from these events in order to withstand risks, preserve the sovereignty of Ukraine, and overcome the socio-economic and political crisis.
