The Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs(ULIE) will take measures to encourage the introduction by Ukrainian producers of the environmental standards adopted by the European Union and other developed countries. The League has garnered the support of the Environmental Safety Council (Ecorada), an international non-governmental organization, after the two organizations signed a memorandum of cooperation.
Both sides' representatives consider that a strong pool of civil society representatives, experts and others, who would respond to the challenges of the crisis, should be formed to ensure qualitative changes in the environment and other aspects of social and economic life.
Ecorada Chairman Serhiy Orekhov says that the ULIE, with its representation and connections in the international arena, will be able to contribute to changes in an approach to resolving environmental issues.
The ULIE is actively engaged in environmental projects, particularly in partnership with the Lithuanian side. The organization studies Lithuania's experience in balancing production and the environmental and social spheres, it develops river clean-up projects. In particular, it stresses that the environmental condition of Ukraine's main waterway, the River Dnipro, requires an urgent response.
The importance of bringing the environmental standards and production and product safety requirements in line with the EU directives was announced by ULIE President Anatoliy Kinakh. "Presence on the foreign markets amid the economic crisis in Ukraine will give Ukrainian companies a chance to survive and develop in future. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account the need to observe environmental safety standards in production," Anatoliy Kinakh said.
The memorandum signed by the sides provides for measures to improve environmental legislation, arrange events, namely workshops, roundtable meetings, implement environmental programs along with raising investment and engaging innovation and professionals, etc.
A joint action plan for 2016 will be developed soon at the ULIE's suggestion. The plan will offer clearly defined objectives, algorithms of their implementation and the timing.
