During the visit of Jyri Häkämies, Director General of the Confederation of Finnish Industries, and representatives of leading Finnish companies to Kyiv, a strong commitment was made to intensify trade and economic cooperation with Ukraine. As part of the new ProUkraine initiative, the Confederation aims to bring around 200 Finnish companies to the Ukrainian market over the next two years.
President of the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (ULIE) Anatoliy Kinakh met with Mr. Häkämies and other representatives of the Confederation in charge of international cooperation. The delegation arrived in Ukraine alongside Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and included senior executives from prominent companies such as Nokia, Wärtsilä, and Kone Corporation.
The parties discussed the prospects for bilateral economic cooperation amid the large-scale challenges caused by russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine. Key areas of focus included energy infrastructure recovery, green energy development, innovation, construction of modern shelters, environmental protection, and humanitarian demining.
Mr. Häkämies announced the launch of the ambitious ProUkraine project, which will include the opening of Confederation offices in Finland and Kyiv, and the establishment of a solid framework for cooperation with Ukrainian partners. The goal is to facilitate the entry of 200 Finnish companies into the Ukrainian market within two years.
The Finnish side reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine, its recovery, and development as an innovative European state. Mr. Häkämies emphasized that the Confederation is closely coordinating with EU institutions and firmly upholds the joint stance that russian aggression must be stopped and the aggressor held accountable.
Anatoliy Kinakh expressed gratitude for Finland’s consistent position and its practical initiatives to support Ukraine’s economy. ULIE stands ready to provide comprehensive assistance to Finnish businesses, including advisory support, and will contribute to the development of an effective communication platform for the ProUkraine initiative.
As a result of the meeting, the sides agreed to sign an additional cooperation agreement on the outlined initiatives and to maintain an ongoing dialogue, including regular working-level communications and the organization of B2B meetings.
