The partners discussed the economic situation in Ukraine in the seventh month of the war, the needs of our exporters to increase their presence in European markets and accelerate the modernization of production facilities, etc.
ULIE and BUSINESSEUROPE have been consistently cooperating since 2016 within the framework of the signed memorandum. This organization represents the entire EU business, including 20 million companies and 40 national associations.
The meeting was attended by President of BUSINESSEUROPE Fredrik Persson, Director General Markus Beyrer, his deputy Luisa Santos, Chairman of the Membership Committee, Vice Presidents - representatives of national associations of Austria and Poland.
ULIE President Anatolii Kinakh informed the counterparts that the drop in Ukraine's GDP for 8 months of 2022 is 37%. Due to the war, 12 million Ukrainians became refugees - half of them abroad.
The government and business associations are working in a constant dialogue to keep Ukraine's economy stable gradually reducing (as much as possible in these realities) the budget deficit. Some proposals of the ULIE were taken into account in the regulations, but there is still much to be done.
For its part, the business of Ukraine is committed to strengthening cooperation with European partners, especially now that our country has acquired the status of a candidate for EU membership and duties for Ukrainian products have been temporarily cancelled.
According to Mr. Fredrik Persson, the EU business is trying to support Ukrainian partners and is open to cooperation.
The parties also discussed the mechanism and terms of the procedure of obtaining the observer status at BUSINESSEUROPE. This will help intensify cooperation between European business associations and Ukraine, provide new opportunities for lobbying Ukrainian products and joint production in the EU.
Markus Beyrer also said that the European Federation of Trade Unions has certain concerns about some draft regulations on the labor market, which are currently in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. In their opinion, some norms of such legislative initiatives do not quite correspond to the European ones and Ukraine should harmonize its legislation before joining the EU.
Anatolii Kinakh informed the partners that social dialogue in the triangle of government-trade unions-employers is conducted, in particular, on the platform of the National Tripartite Social and Economic Council. On September 28 a meeting of the NTSEC is scheduled, where, among other things, this issue will be considered.
The partners will continue working communications in these areas.
