The project will be carried out in two stages, each lasting two years. During the first stage, all engineering structures will be designed, and the necessary groundwork for the restoration will be prepared. The second stage will commence after the territories where the GES is located are de-occupied. This phase will involve actual construction works.
According to information from Ukrhydroenergo, the physical reconstruction will take approximately 6-7 years.
Earlier, the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs conducted its expert assessment of the prospects of rebuilding the Kahovska GES. It is deemed necessary as the lack of irrigation will render hundreds of hectares of agricultural land in the Kherson region unsuitable for cultivation, resulting in a scarcity of drinking water and noticeable changes in the region's ecosystem. The question remains whether the reconstruction should follow the old pattern or adopt a more modern approach. Experts tend to lean towards the latter option.
"The reconstruction of the GES will commence after victory over the Russian aggressors. Given the scale of the project and its cost, this will only be possible in the medium-term perspective – and that is with the availability of technical capabilities and sufficient funding. We should start looking for funding already," emphasized the Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs at the beginning of June.
They are convinced that the preparation of technical/engineering documentation and project work are indeed timely. Alongside this, it is necessary to accumulate funds for this task.
